MY STORY
Welcome to SEW with FIAVI! I’m Faith Princess Som-Pimpong, a passionate sewing enthusiast and the voice behind this blog. Born and raised in Ghana, West Africa, I’ve recently made a big move to North Carolina, USA, to be with my husband.
My sewing journey began when I was around 8 years old. I’d spend most weekends hanging around a neighbour who sewed, asking endless questions and jumping at any chance to help. She’d let me gather fabric scraps, and I’d happily hand-stitch tiny dresses. Those moments sparked a love for sewing that has stayed with me ever since. Then as a teenager, I was always tweaking my clothes to get that perfect fit.
Fast forward to 2023, when I reignited my passion for sewing. In just 10 months, I dove headfirst into the craft, creating over 30 women’s garments, five men’s shirts, five throw pillows, many alterations—including a wedding gown—and a variety of accessories like tote bags, drawstring bags, head ties, and scrunchies.
A huge shoutout to my amazing husband, who has been my biggest cheerleader, my mother-in-law, who taught me the basics of sewing, and the instructor-led classes I took that laid some foundation for what I do now.
Here at SEW with FIAVI, my mission is to inspire and uplift fellow sewing enthusiasts, whether you’re just starting or you’ve been sewing for years. I’m here to share my journey, all the tips and tricks I’ve picked up (and continue to learn), and the exciting projects I’m working on.
I’m especially excited about my upcoming collection featuring African print fabrics—a true passion of mine—which will soon be available in my online shop.
